Beauvais’s heritage, told by those who bring it to life

retour sur les Journées nationales de l’architecture

On Saturday 17 October, as part of France’s National Architecture Days, several professionals shared their expertise and their perspectives on Saint-Pierre Cathedral in Beauvais with the public.

The Association Beauvais Cathédrale warmly thanks Sylvain Beauvais and the young craftsperson from Léon Noël for their stonecarving demonstration. It was a wonderful opportunity to discover the techniques, tools and precision involved in a craft essential to preserving our heritage.

Our thanks also go to Stefania Dotti, conservator of the paintings at the transept crossing, for presenting a film about her work. The footage offered an insight into the conservation work carried out and the care taken to preserve the cathedral’s painted decoration.

Finally, thank you to Guillaume Gouy for his drone demonstrations, which offered a different perspective on the monument.

Behind the stone, colours and decoration are skilled women and men who help pass this heritage on to future generations. We thank them for taking the time to share their craft, and the visitors who came to meet them.

On your next visit, take a moment to look closely at these details: they, too, tell the story of Beauvais.
